I recently read a blog that really hit home. It was all about getting a sales team to blog and one of the advantages to that is….Division of Labor. Yeah! More contributors means taking the burden off of one person to do the blogging. And at Remke that’s me – so this sounded like a great idea. But there were some other ideas discussed that I thought had a lot of merit and wanted to share with you.
We all know that everybody has a full plate – more than enough work to do no matter what job they have. So the thought of adding anything new to our plates feels overwhelming. “How can I possibly do one more thing” most of us would say.
But what many don’t realize is that blogging can yield some really good results. Asking your sales group to contribute content for your blog really does have advantages like:
- Strengthen Industry Knowledge
- When salespeople blog they think more about the business in order to write effective blog articles. As a result, they strengthen their knowledge of the industry which can help them become more effective salespeople
- Offer Unique Perspective
- Salespeople talk with customers & prospects all the time. They are in the best position to hear about what are the key questions and concerns. Answering their questions makes great blog content that is more interesting and useful.
- Develops More Content
- More contributors to a blog means more people are creating content. When salespeople blog diverse content is created from different points of view. And research shows that keeping your blog fresh leads to a better blogging success.
The added bonus to sales team blogging is that it is one more way for them to get involved with their customers and prospects. Letting customers know they are blogging is another way to stay connected with them while at the same time providing valuable information that could help with their purchasing decision.
Time to get the Remke sales team to blog – or at the very least contribute content. Maybe I can create some kind of contest to kick this off. I’ll let you know how it goes.
So how will you get your sales team to blog – or contribute content? Please share your ideas (I might need them!) and as always thank you for subscribing to EVERYTHING’S CONNECTED.
