Atlast Shrugged - Economic Reality - Remke Blog

It’s a few years in the future and America is a place where government and companies are colluding in the name of economic rescue at the expense of the entrepreneur…..where politicians respond to crises by introducing new government programs, laws and regulations with benevolent-sounding titles…….where new programs bring more uncertainty & poverty resulting in more programs………..where the downward spiral continues until the productive sectors of the economy collapse under the collective weight of taxes and other burdens.

This is the story played out in “Atlas Shrugged”, the Ayn Rand novel first published in 1957.  Many have questioned whether her vision of the future has become the economic reality in Washington D.C.  Although part of the story line is dated (e.g. fighting over the railroad industry), much of what is written does seem to bear a striking similarity to what has been happening in our country for the last few years.

What do you think?  Is Atlas Shrugged a foretelling of what’s to come? We look forward to hearing from you – and thanks for reading EVERYTHING’s CONNECTED.

    Kathryn Graber says:

I am very concerned about what is happening with our country – the amount of debt is frightening as is the spending. And doing something with entitlement programs so they don’t go bankrupt is very important. If the politicians and citizens of our great country don’t start dealing with realities then I do think the downward spiral will happen. I read this book many years ago and found it frightening but I sure never thought I would ever see many of its themes become reality. That is really sad.
